About Me
Abiodun Bakare
Born in Lagos, Nigerian in 1989, Abiodun Bakare is the second of six children , four daughter and two sons--- raised by Muse Bakare, an airways technician, and Olayinka Bakare, a dedicated trader. From a young age, Abiodun was energetic and imaginative, often found climbing trees, playing soccer, and engaging in creative hobbies like making handmade greeting cards that brought him joy and a sense of purpose.
At age nine, Abiodun's life changed dramatically. In 2000, he suffered a devastating fire accident that left him with severe burns and required multiple surgeries. This traumatic event not only altered his appearance but also exposed him to rejection and emotional hardship. Despite the pain, isolation and years of recovery, Abiodun found healing and strength in art. With brushes and paint in hand, he began to express his emotions on paper--- transforming his suffering into a source of inspiration.
After a four-years period of recovery---two years in the hospital and two years at home ---he returned to his studies with renewed determination. Although he never formally studied art, his experiences nurtured a deeply personal and powerful artistic voice. Some of his early works exhibited in Nigerian art galleries, marking the beginning for his artistic recognition.
In the mid-2000s, Abiodun and his family immigrated to the United States. He pursued studies in Pharmacy Technology at ASA College in Brooklyn, NY, between 2006 and 2008. After losing his father shortly arriving in the US., Abiodun relocated to Baltimore and later Texas, eventually settling in Maryland. In 2010, he returned fully to his first love ---painting.
His work, such as Mother love and Father's Affection, speak to universal human emotions---resilience , love, and hope---and have resonated with many who find both strength and solace in his art. Abiodun has since participated in several exhibitions, earning admiration for both his skill and his story.
Known professionally as Bakare Art, Abiodun continues to create compelling visual narrative drawn from his life experiences. His art is a testament to perseverance and spiritual growth. Outside of painting , he enjoys driving and playing ping pong. His favorite color is blue --- a symbol of peace, depth, and clarity.
From a curious child in Lagos to a resilient artist in America, Abiodun Bakare embodies the spirit of transformation. His journey is not only one of survival but of artist triumph, with the ongoing goal of becoming a master in the world of contemporary art.
